Not too long ago I did an interview with Seth Newman, a journalist who runs the YouTube channel Tigerchainsaw Show and talks about hip music and old video games. He reached out to get some background on the launching of Fantasy Zone and Choplifter on the Sega Master System in the 1980’s.
Back then I was a product manager for the Sega Master System working for Tonka Toys and managed the Japanese-to-English game translations, packaging copy and catalog copy for the system and games. I did a lot of trade shows, got to go cool places to play video games for TV commercials and wrote for the Sega Challenge Newsletter, which eventually became Sega Visions Magazine, of which I was the editorial director.
Seth covers games well and has an awesome sense of humor. I appreciate journalists like him who work to keep these games alive and capture the history of how they came to be. Here is the link to the episode:
